Fibremood Delma twinning

Fibremood special edition 3 has been released and Sheila from @SheilaLovesFabric and I were invited to participate in a twinning challenge. Sheila and I both immediately chose the Delma, which is a cape and perfect for both Perth and Hobart in the autumn.

Fibremood provided the pattern and the glorious fabric, 3m of it, came from Polytex Stoffen in Holland, which was so generous! The fabric is available on the Fibremood website, and I can recommend it, it’s beautiful. It seemed obvious to make this cape in a neutral colour, so I chose blue cotton twill with lime green stripes! The fabric is fairly thick, being 270gsm and it duly arrived with matching thread from Mettler Threads. Perfectly matching!

I will say that the fabric sewed like a dream. Although it was thick it could be easily finger pressed prior to actual pressing.

Sheila and I both chose the view with the collar, and I did consider playing with the stripes but thought it might look messy. You can see the basic shape of the cape, which has a lovely pleat at the back, tabs which close the side seams and hidden buttons at the front.

The front also has a storm flap on one side which hides the buttons. My buttons are rather lovely and match the green so well. The button at the neck is a small one but I managed to find one the right colour. They are all from my button stash.

My intention had been to use lime green topstitching but my thread stash didn’t have the perfect colour so I decided not to. I’m quite pleased about this as I think it may have been a bit busy and distracted from those gorgeous stripes.

It’s been really hot and I was worrying about taking photos wearing the cape, but we had an unusually cool and damp day, so I teamed the Delma with my Fibremood Clover cargo trousers, which happen to be waterproof.

I took a seated photo too.

Some more photos from my river photoshoot, as you can see it was quite windy!

I also wore it to a West Australian Symphony Orchestra concert in the park at the end of our street. It was the perfect night for this cape. I teamed it with white self drafted jeans. The photos aren’t the best, but I wanted to show the cape with a different outfit.

I mentioned twinning with Sheila at the beginning of this post and we’ve had quite a few discussions about where and what feel we wanted for our photos. We decided to pose with suitcases to infer that we might visit each other and near water as there is a fair bit of ocean between us. We have met in real life when I had lunch with Sheila in Hobart, so it’s lovely to pretend we were catching up again.

We made a video to celebrate our twinning, but sadly I couldn’t save the music so play whatever is in your head..

This was such a lovely thing to do and I’m so grateful to Fibremood for the opportunity. Sheila and I had a lot of fun talking our way through the process and I hope we can catch up in real life again soon. My next version will be from leftover oiled denim from my Clover cargo pants. It will have a hood. Stay tuned!

  1. Wow! What a unique design, and it seems practical and useful. I love the twinning photos, and both fabrics are well paired to the pattern. Thank you both for posting.
