I made this Stokx Kim dress to suit the Make a Garment a Month Sewalong, which has the theme of No Frills February. A less frilly dress would be hard to find!

I used fabric found free at REMida, a recycling centre which I visited with Meggipeg and SewBlooms. I found matching rib knit which I thought was a win and which I used for the neckband, which does work better with a rib knit. The ribbing is such a good match you’d never know that it’s different fabric.
Again I chose to use the invisible darts, which is just stretching the back to fit the front, and although it gives a ripple, I think it’s so much better than my usual lowering and raising darts game. There’s not a lot of stretch in this fabric so perhaps I should have gone up a size. The pattern looks much looser than mine.
I added a couple of patch pockets but couldn’t make them level so took one off. Then this one is a little bit high but I’m going to live with it!

I didn’t know if it would go with the yellow sandals I made, but I think it does, so that makes me happy.
The brightness of the dress tricked my camera and I just couldn’t get good shots in my garden. This is the best I could do.

I decamped to the verandah, but could not get a good shot of the back, so just front shots. I left the sleeves at the original length and don’t mind them with this dress. The red one I made previously is here for comparison.

I did manage a couple of seated shots

I was looking after Pepper the puppy and to stop her chewing things I decided to make her a couple of “sausages” from some leftover home decorator linen (leftover from making son’s dining bench), and I used fabric scraps from this dress to stuff them, along with the contents of my overlocker bin.

Pepper couldn’t wait for it to be finished; she attacked it whilst I was sewing it up.

The proof of the pudding etc, was her chasing the sausages around and she even did a bit of retrieving.

Mostly though, she just looked cute.

I still have enough of this fabric to make a tee shirt, which I shall get around to eventually. I do love this dress shape, the swing and the silhouette is very appealing but I may just size it up next time.
I love yellow and gold tones in fabric. Did you mention whether your fabric is woven or knit?
The style of your dress is classic and goes well with accessories like your necklace and sandals.
It’s a knit and I didn’t know if the colour would suit me, but I don’t mind it. Thank you.
