It’s that time of year where I don’t really want to give chocolate but feel as though I should give the grandchildren something. So I made these bunny bags, which are a free pattern from Bernina. I made this one as a kind of proof of concept, using fabrics donated to my stash by my friend Jenny. I love the spotted pink.

It’s a super quick and very effective pattern and the bags are ideal for use during an Easter egg hunt.
The bunny tail pom poms were made on a fork, which is the quickest thing ever. Wind wool round the fork as many times as you like (I did 45 times) and then thread some yarn between the centre tines and pull as tightly as possible. Slide off the fork and cut the sides. I then roll it round in my hand to make it round.

I loved the first one so immediately set to work on three more. I kind of lost the plot though and when I had completely finished I realised that I had sewn the ears to the front not the back. Could I live with this?

The answer of course was no, so I unpicked the tops of each bag, and reattached the ears. A bit of a drag and what should have been a quick make became a much longer one, but at least I’m happy with them now.
I made a blue and orange one for my grandson, which I really like, although not sure I’m enjoying straying into the whole blue/pink thing!

and I did an extra one for the Misses G & E’s little cousin.

I only used scraps, no large pieces were sacrificed in the making of these.
I was quite happy but then decided that they needed a bunny in them. I had two fleece cuffs which I hadn’t put on a sweatshirt I made last year and I thought the floral would be perfect.
I cut the bunnies out on my Cricut, sewing two sides together with blanket stitch. I noticed that I had missed the nose and paws on one of the sides, so just stitched some fabric to those areas and recut the side. I stuffed the rabbits with this fabulous cotton wadding given to me by Megan (Meggipeg), and added a pompom tail.

The rabbits looked really cute tucked into their bags, and are fun to take in and out.

Of course the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so I was delighted to see six months old Miss E chasing her bunny round the floor.

If you’re looking for a quick last minute gift this Easter, I can recommend these bags, the only thing I’d do differently is sew the lining and the outside of bag right sides together so you can’t see the overlocking.
