Special Edition Number 4 of Fibremood has been released and it’s all about sportswear. I chose the Boreal sweater which I thought would be a useful addition to my wardrobe. The Boreal has a bit of an edge – it’s cropped and has balloon sleeves which are in three pieces. All the seams are topstitched and the neckline and hem are in rib whilst the sleeves are faced.
I decided that I wanted it a little longer so I added 5cms to the body, but after my first make, I found the sleeves too long so removed 4cms from the next one. I have already turned the sleeves up in these photos and they are still long.

This first one is made from some French Terry which I dyed with sourgrass (oxalis) giving this amazing colour. It looks fairly even in the photos but it does have a bit of fading where the light got at it. The striped ribbing got a bit wonky so I took it off and straightened it up.
I’ve worn it a couple of times and it’s the perfect weight for spring.

I nearly didn’t choose this because it has dropped sleeves, but it’s actually not bad. At some point when I have the energy I might modify the armscyes and sleeve heads so they align with my shoulders.

I added a heart onto the shoulder.

I made a second one using some leftover French Terry that had been my mother’s. I had to match stripes with limited fabric, but managed it in the end. Of course the sleeves have four seams that had to be matched!

There is a seam in this photo, but I did quite a good job so it’s not terribly visible, even though it’s topstitched.

Worn here with my corduroy Stokx Square Pants.
A few more images, but they do all look the same!

I made the first two 5cms longer but suddenly had a yearing for a cropped one as per the pattern. I had a dig in my stash and found some denim silk that has been sitting there for yonks. I always think it feels a bit like polyester and I’ve done so many burn tests to prove to myself it’s a natural fibre.

It’s also quite stretchy which I assume is knitted in as there are no signs of any elastine.
I’m wearing it with shorts that had belonged to my son and which I appropriated a few years ago. I added elastic to the waist and they fit me perfectly.

It is a terrific shirt for walking in as it keeps the sun off my arms and the neck is high which limits exposure. My hat is the zero waste bucket hat by Liz Haywood. This one is made from a damask tablecloth.

It’s a really comfortable top and I suspect that there will be more.

I also teamed it with my red Stokx square pants

and a seated shot

A photo of Miss E playing hide and seek. It took me ages to find her…!

This looks comfy cozy. I like the sweatshirt vibe. I’m in the undecided camp vis-a-vis dropped shoulders.. On some garments I think they look great and on others it depends. Keep posting your interesting/lovely makes. All the best and happy sewing.
