The minute I had finished my first Liz Haywood zero waste jacket I knew I wanted a spring/summer version. I dug out a piece of Marimekko I had bought in Stockholm and which I ruined with some reckless cutting. The design is quite lovely but I have these bias cuts all along the edge as shown in the second photo.

I devised a way to get the correct sized rectangle from the tatters, but had to decide which way to orient the rectangle to get the maximum advantage of the floral central panel.
I laid out a scale version of the pattern and wrote on it where the design would fall. I chose the version on the left.

I think I made the correct decision but it could have gone either way! By the way, if you’ve never made a zero waste garment, creating a scale version on a sheet of paper, making the cuts and folds really helps you get your head round it.
You can see how my pattern fell. I really like the plain pink fronts, but was a bit sad that I lost quite a lot of the red flowers on the sleeves. I hadn’t factored in how much I would lose with the cuff. Even if I had realised I don’t think I could have changed it.

I had to try the jacket with my Liz Haywood zero waste culottes made from a damask tablecloth. I think this will be a popular combination in spring. And how well do my shoes go with it? They are Arche.

I felt as though white was the perfect colour to team it with, so dragged a few things out of the wardrobe.
Fibremood Gizeh pants made from a sheet.

and a tight, white, stretchy skirt. My least favourite.

You can see my heart for Sew do it for heart initiative in the photo above. Here’s a closeup, I tried to get all the colours in it.

I was rummaging through my warm weather clothes, thinking that my pink Stokx Play Pants would go – they didn’t. But then I found the red Stokx Square Pants and instantly loved the combination.

The red pants go perfectly with the red flowers on the back.

I wore it for a coffee catchup, and got quite a few comments – it’s quite hard to explain zero waste to non-sewists! Here I am in my local shopping area.

Then on my daily walk with new phone and therefore a much better camera!
As you can see spring has arrived and we are having gorgeous weather and there are lots of flowers around.

We had the family come to stay at our holiday place at the weekend. I made the girls an apron each from block out curtains, fabric for which came from my mother. I made the aprons reversible and the inside is made with curtain lining from curtains that had been used at a local boys school and which has been in my stash for about twelve years, maybe longer.

I had the girls lay down on a sheet of paper so I could draw round them and they decorated their bodies with paint and scraps from my Cricut adventures. I helped E with the face, but G decided to paint the inside of her apron so her body drawing was abandoned. We had a lovely time though..

and there was much excitement when we spotted a frog in the pond. He’s a big one, they are usually quite small.

A very cute jacket. Still trying to figure out what to do with some tablecloths at this end. Any suggestions?
I liked your first version a lot, Sue, but I like this one even better! A great look with the red pants.
