Fibremood Blaze

Edition 33 of the Fibremood magazine has been released and I chose to make the Blaze which is a really good basic garment and I know I’ll wear it a lot. It is a formfitting, crew neck tee shirt with extra long sleeves.

As you can see, it’s a pretty basic tee.

I had several fabric candidates in my stash, and settled on a rather lovely linen knit. I had about four metres of this fabric, and I don’t remember where I got it, but when I opened it out, I remembered this:

Yes, it’s a giant hole bang in the middle of the fabric. It made me think that it had been folded and someone snipped a swatch out, or maybe it’s a manufacturing glitch. Luckily the fabric is quite wide and I easily cut out the Blaze from one end.

I was a bit worried about the formfitting aspect of this top as the linen doesn’t have a lot of stretch, so considered going up a size lest I finished up looking like a bag of oranges. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the fit, and it seems almost baggy at the bottom, although I didn’t do my usual grading down at the hips, so it’s probably a couple of sizes too big there.

It fits perfectly over the shoulders, is fitted through the bust, and I like the looseness at the hips.

I was also worried that the sleeves would be excessively long, but they don’t annoy me at all, although I can pull them further down.

It goes really well with my Fibremood Gizeh pants.

My orange Stokx Square Pants were an obvious choice to wear with the orange Blaze, and so I spent the day dressed like a crayon!

and the usual seated and back view

The fit through the shoulders is much better than my last long sleeved tee, I need to lay the two patterns together to check where they differ.

The Blaze is a perfect layering piece, but it’s really been too warm to put things on over this as the linen is surprisingly warm on its own.

Speaking of the weather, how is this for a moody sky? Yes, it was stormy but it was very humid and I was actually a bit hot in my top.

I put in a couple of labels as usual. My 2025 label is a bit huge this year, I don’t think I intended it to be this big; I certainly won’t miss the year this was made!

I’m going to make a couple more of these, from some merino I have sitting in my stash. I may grade in at the hips if the fabric is more stretchy to get the correct silhouette.

Finally, here is Miss G collecting Easter eggs on her other grandparents’ farm.

And here she is with her most favourite cousin. I love this!

  1. Thank you for sharing. The possibility for seeing the T-shirt worn by real people with explanations on the pattern helps a lot when making a choice .👍😃
    Kind regards

  2. I love your label, “Sew Over Ageism”. That’s how I feel about sewing clothing styles that appeal to me. I’ll be the granny in a jumpsuit.

    1. I really am against the ageism we see in all sorts of things. I’m going to talk to my hairdresser as his feed is full of young women and not one older one. Thank you.
