Stokx Kim top

I have long admired all the Stokx Kim tops and dresses on IG and am so happy to have finally made one.

I chose a beautiful mercerised cotton knit from my stash which I had originally bought at Knitwit Fabrics. I see they still sell it, as it’s probably a staple, I’ve linked to the fabric and the colour I may have bought.

I immediately paired it with my Stokx Rock made from old jeans and I love this combo.

I wore it to coffee with a friend and stopped for a couple of photos in the park.

The next time I wore it I chose some Pattern Union Hannah culottes as shorts that I made a couple of years ago.

The Kim is a very shapely top. I graded down a size at the hips but feel as though I could reduce it more

I thought I’d try it with my pink Stokx play pants and decided that I have a new favourite combo!

I took several shots of the back view but even though I took them at the same time as the other photos, they finished up being a lot darker so this is the best of a bad bunch. It’s quite nice having a centre back seam as it really brings shape to the top, much more than a one piece back does. Sorry it’s hard to see here.

This fabric is exceedingly fine which is lovely, but it doesn’t have a lot of stretch and I managed to catch a wrinkle in the overlocker, requiring a quick mend.

This would have been a very quick make except that I put in the darts, which were too high, so I lowered them and they were too low, so in the end went with the invisible dart option in the pattern which is just stretching a small section of back to accommodate the extra length in the front. I really appreciate having this option and will definitely use it next time.

I’m so pleased with this top that I’m going to make the dress version immediately!

No photos of the little ones today, I couldn’t de-identify any of the photos. I will do better next time!

  1. Your blue knit top is well made. I hear you about those tricky bust darts, though.
My favorite kind of knit top is a v-neck style with long or short sleeves. I haven’t found any single pattern that fits me well so I’ll swap out pattern pieces from my collection. I can’t sew a decent bound v-neck so I use a v-neck facing with these knit tops.

    1. I swear I replied to this, but it’s not showing up, so sorry. I think using multiple patterns to create the one you want is an excellent way to go. Bust darts are my nemesis!

  2. Hi
your outfits are all lovely ,I would take them all. Bust darts have always to be moves for me too and T-shirts
without have a less good fit. I only sewed one in all my sewing career , the Maria Denmark Top where I had to make a high round back adjustment , well let’s say it fits now more or less. 🙄
    Have a nice day

    1. gosh, I just found this. Thank you Jeannine, I move darts up and down all the time. I should just get out my block and see where to put them. I might just do that next time. Cheers Sue
