A luxurious summer top

During the SewApril competition earlier this year I won some fabric from Fibers to Fabric and I chose this beautiful viscose rayon, which feels like silk, it’s so drapey and smooth, and yes, silky!

I didn’t get very much but really wanted to use it for summer as it is so pretty. I considered many patterns but in the end went for the Esme top by Lotta Jansdotter. Another Esme!

I did the very simple version with capped sleeves.

I accidentally cut the front too short but managed to pattern match and add a band. I don’t think it’s too visible. Can you see it?

Of course I immediately knew that this top would go with my pink Stokx play pants!

I am besotted with this combination and can imagine reaching for it often.

I’ve made so many Esmes that the only decision I needed to make was about length. I used almost the full length of the fabric and only had tiny scraps left over.

This is such a comfortable outfit. I’m a bit sad that you can’t see the sprinkles of gold. Those tiny leaves are gold and they give the fabric such a lift.

This is my sewn seated shot; it was a beautiful morning for sitting outside and reading a book. I’m deep into myths at the moment.

Unfortunately I have no new photos of the grandchildren, it might be time for some babysitting!

  2. I really enjoy reading your big but rarely think to comment. Your new top looks great and goes so nicely with the pink trousers 🙂

  3. I absolutely love this top, and the pants. Great fabric choice. Where did you get the Esme top pattern? From one of her books?

  4. Hmmm, looking good Sus, great duo (and reminds me its time I got some colour into my life)! Love to all.

  5. Love the Esme. Glad you mentioned where it came from.
Never sewn an Esme but have made the Onya pants.
You have now given me impetus to sew Esme and also the Pilvi short jacket and a new pair of Onya.
Do you have lotta’s follow up book everyday patterns – thinking of the pym pants and kiko jacket similar to image page 85.
    Regards

  6. You did a wonderful matching job. I love seeing the cheerful things that you made for yourself and your cute little granddaughters. Happy sewing.
