A roundup of odds and sods

I seem to have made lots of little things, many of which have gone unreported, so thought I’d add them to one post, which may turn out to be quite big.

I made a girl pirate tee shirt for my granddaughter to wear swimming for a safety week. I finished up having to handpaint the pirate, but it stood up to the swimming lesson well.

It’s even been worn since and I’m pleased to report that Miss G likes it a lot.

I made a little goddess from a tutorial we did during Making Zen. Her name is Indigo as I used some of my indigo scraps. I have given her away, and quite miss her!

I’ve made a bag from a tea tray cloth, which has a beautiful applique. I even found a perfectly matching zip in my stash.

I lined the bag with some calico printed with instructions for a toy. It’s perfect!

Mark told me that his black casual trousers needed replacing, and I had nothing suitable in my stash, so I had to buy new fabric for the first time in years. I found some beautiful wool deadstock in the Fabric Store in Melbourne and made the usual KwikSew 3663. He wears them to the pool nearly every day, and yes, he usually carries my bags!

I made some cloth nappies for Miss G’s doll. Very simple, but they work well.

You will have to excuse the next bit, but I couldn’t resist. Miss G goes to a lot of trouble with the cloth wipes I made her, and she makes sure her doll’s bottom is very clean. I decided to pop a little felt “shape” inside the nappy. She was so funny, fanning her nose and making all sorts of noises. She collected it in a cloth wipe and managed the whole situation like a seasoned mother.

Once Dolly was clean and dry again, she was tucked up warmly ready for a walk.

Finally, I took this video of Miss G and Miss E playing a steel drum. They both love this and it’s much better for them than the music that comes out of plastic toys. Miss G clearly likes to take over, I did give the drumsticks back to E!

  1. Hi:
Those sound like fun projects, especially the cloth “insert” for the dolly diaper.
I am wondering if you used fabric paint for the pirate tee shirt, or some other kind of paint.

  2. Hi Sue,
really cute the little goddess Indigo!
A visit to a fabric store is extremely “dangerous” for me. ;-))

    1. Thank you! I have so much fabric that I am no longer tempted at the fabric store. My step daughter’s partner just delivered an enormous box of his late grandmother’s fabric and I’m having to give most of it away!
