Miss G is three! She received a baby born doll for her birthday and her mother asked if I could make an outfit to replace the one she was wearing which is polyester and quite horrible. I accepted the request with alacrity, and was told not to go to too much trouble. Of course I wouldn’t!
I found some really cute patterns at Wollyonline and set about sorting out fabric and identifying the patterns I wanted to make.
I began with a dress and knickers made from some fine gauze, but wasn’t happy with the finish – the seam allowance is very small and I felt that it wasn’t really up to standard, so Annie the Waldorf doll scored a new outfit.
To avoid this happening again, I increased the seam allowance to 1cm so that I could finish them off properly.
I made the above outfit again, this time from a striped cotton fat quarter adding a little head bow.
I’m much happier with this one.
I also made a tiny pair of felt slippers to go with it.
Apart from the bloomer style of knickers, I made this little pair which has a padded gusset,
I had made Miss G a petal jacket for winter so made the doll a matching cape from the scraps. Ably modelled by Annie.
I made her matching pyjamas using Simplicity 4707, a baby doll pattern.
I used the scraps of flannelette left over from my own pyjamas and the pair I made Miss G and her zero waste doll. The pattern called for gathered lace, and I found some in my mother’s stash. These are very cute and I later sewed on a KATM label which matches the one on Miss G’s pyjamas
No baby is put to bed without a sleeping bag or snuggy sack, which is a free pattern from Wollyonline.
I cobbled together the wadding for the snuggy sack and note with dismay that my wadding stash has not reduced in the slightest.
I used an assortment of scraps to make this one, as well as kitten buttons from my mother’s stash.
I thought the buttons were extra special having come from my Mum, the fact that Miss G loves her cat, and also that Wollyonline donates the proceeds from the sale of patterns to save kittens.
Once again Annie tried it on so I could check the fit. She’s a bit smaller than the new doll, but it doesn’t look too bad.
Miss G does love a bag, so I made her a nappy bag. It contains a change mat and a little packet of cloth wipes.
There are six wipes in there and for some reason I didn’t take any photos. They are basically just little squares but they are quite tricky to get back in the cloth packet!
This fabric came from a cotton doona cover. I also used it to make a baby sling for the doll. I have previously made Miss G a baby carrier for her dolls but it’s quite complicated to put on and I’m hoping this one will be easier. Again, brilliantly demonstrated by Annie.
The sling works quite well, but I’m not too sure about it. I think the strap needs to be adjusted, but it’s easy for her to manage.
I managed to get a photo of Miss G changing the doll (whose name is Dolly apparently), she used the change mat and one of the wipes. Her uncle assisted and was generally bossed about.
I also made Miss G a birthday card. She loves Bluey and Emma Memma, so I made a card with images of both of these characters, which I then overlaid with fridge magnets which I made on my Cricut, so she has the card, but can add the magnets to all the others on the fridge!
Finally, a little gallery of the Misses G & E playing with the duplo, supervised by yeti bear who used to belong to their daddy!
