I didn’t think I’d ever have a skort in my wardrobe again. I wore them in the ’70s and the ’90s and possibly several points in between, and here I am trundling around in them with some delight, and a bit of trepidation – am I too old for this look? When did I start worrying about being too old – it’s such an ageing thing!!
Anyway, my skorts. I was delighted to be chosen to test the Itch-to-Stitch skort and immediately fossicked around in my stash to find suitable fabrics. I thought I’d make a little video of my first effort
This one is a little bit big, but still wearable. I used some leftover fabric and didn’t have quite enough for the waistband, so just used some black fabric I had in my scraps stash.
I began to panic about the length, so the next version was just a pair of shorts which I lengthened by 4cms. Clearly I couldn’t be bothered with shoes!
I then thought I’d try a woven version and used this fabric which I had bought at Potters as a remnant and which, on reflection, was a little weird so it has been malingering in the stash.
I could pretend these are a jeans refashion, given the print on the fabric!
These aren’t a skort – they have the skirt part at the front but the back is shorts as I didn’t have enough fabric, so this is View D.
Then I started seeing all the other pattern testers swanning around in the sunshine and decided I needed a winter pair. I immediately set about making some from pin cord denim left over from these jeans. This fabric may have been a little heavy, but I think it works.
and the back view, and you can probably see why I’m a little concerned about wearing these in public, although I’m so going to! The shorts/skort have a flat front and elasticated back. This makes them extremely comfortable and I think I shall be wearing them often.
So, the pattern – as with all Itch-to-Stitch patterns, this one is really well designed. Everything aligns brilliantly and the way those points at the front are mitred is beautiful. It’s a pretty quick make, especially if you just choose the simple shorts option. There are five views and I think that there is something here for everyone:
