Fibremood Special Edition 3 has just been released with the theme of “Everyday Basics”, which tells me that the garments in this release are ones that will be in constant rotation. I chose the Donna cardigan as I’ve long wanted a fabric cardigan without a v-neck. You can see from the line drawings below that it has raglan sleeves and a round neck.
It’s supposed to sit at the waist, but mine finished up at the hips, not that I mind too much.
I used some Liberty fleece which has been a long-time resident of my stash. I bought it in London but discovered that the stretch went down rather than across. I couldn’t cut it on the crossgrain as the flowers would have been sideways. This cardigan works with a woven, except for the bands, so I felt that it wouldn’t matter too much if the stretch wasn’t going around my body. The bottom and cuff bands are cut with the stretch going the right way and it doesn’t look too bad.
This is definitely a cool weather garment and I decided to get up at 5.30am to take photos. It was too dark so I waited until 6am and you can see a variation in the light in these photos as it took probably 40 minutes to get them all.
I should say that it began to drizzle during the taking of these photos so my hair has gone quite lank, but the rest of me stayed nice and dry!
I teamed the cardigan with my new Stokx Square Pants, made with denim left over from covering my sofas. I had a tee shirt underneath that has a tie at the waist, which sticks out, so that wasn’t the best choice.
It looks great both done up and undone. The instructions state that by eliminating the front band it can be turned into a sweater and I’m sure I’ll be doing this.
SheilaLovesFabric over in Hobart was making the same top so we decided to do some twinning. Thanks to Sheila for creating this montage. The bottom photo is me trying to see her, and Sheila letting me know that she was there. It was good for a laugh.
I have made some Year of the Dragon labels which I printed and then embroidered onto cotton tape, one of which I sewed onto the bottom band.
This pattern, along with many other really useful and lovely patterns, can be found in Fibremood Edition 27 Special No 3 and all the patterns are worth a look.
There is currently much excitement in the sewing room as Miss G wants to sew quite often when she visits. Instead of just sewing random pieces of fabric we made the Liz Haywood Zero Waste doll a pair of shorts. She was thrilled and now wants to make her a jacket. We just drew round the doll’s legs and I felt like I was sewing for my own dolls as a little kid, which was marvellous.
