Linda from Nicedressthanksimadeit has nominated me for a Mystery Blogger Award, for which I thank her.
I had never heard of this award and suspect that many readers won’t have either, so I have lifted the following information from Linda’s post:

Here are “The Rules” to the “Mystery Blogger Award”:
- Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
- Tell your readers three things about yourself
- Answer the questions from the person who nominated you
- Nominate some bloggers you feel deserve the award
- Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny one
- Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
I have been contemplating the three things people might like to know about me and truly struggled, so here are my offerings:
- I am quite short and followers of my blog are often surprised when they meet me in real life. This has become something of a joke and Megan from Meggipeg always refers to me as a MIRL (midget in real life). I must say, I would rather be a GIRL (giant in real life), but you get what you are given in terms of height.
- I can fly small fixed wing planes and was encouraged to do aerobatics to improve my knowledge of what my plane could do and thereby improve my flying skills. I have recently taken up quilting and feel the same way – I’m sure the precision required has improved my general sewing skills.
- I have been sewing and knitting my whole life, but crochet is a relatively new skill for me and I have never made a whole garment. I recently mastered Tunisian crochet and have made a blanket but it’s a rather odd shape so assume that I acquired more stitches by the end than I started with.
The questions that Linda has asked her nominees to answers are:
- If you won a lottery what would you buy first? Fabric of course! And a storage unit to keep it in.
- Do you like turnips? Absolutely not, they are disgusting!
- Who started you with sewing? My lovely mother taught me to sew, first by hand and then introduced me to her sewing machines. I hated sewing at school because the teacher was so pedantic and fussy and I’m pretty slapdash.
- How many sewing/serger/coverstitch machines do you have, what kind are they and what are their names (if they have names)? I just cannot anthropomorphise inanimate objects. None of my machines have a name – how sad is that? My favourite machine is my Singer Featherweight 222K, but I also love my Elna Lotus. My daily machine is a Bernina 770QE, and I have a Babylock Evolution and a Bernina L220 coverstitch. I do have quite a few other machines, including a Bernina 800DL overlocker, which I leave at our holiday place.
- What was the worst sewing project you ever worked on and why? My memory tells me that it was when I was in my early twenties and I had to make a bridesmaid’s dress out of the most disgusting polyester fabric that slipped and frayed and generally misbehaved so badly that the dress almost didn’t fit me. I was supposed to make the other bridesmaid’s dress and finished up saying that I couldn’t so my Mum made it!

So interesting and I absolutely cannot believe you are short! You photograph as a tall person – I know, good camera angle but I had eliminated some of the things you have sewn because I thought as a short person, I couldn’t carry it off LOL!! Not going to grow anymore so maybe I will try a few – I do have an itch to stitch jacket pattern taped, traced and cut out (Hvar??) and even found a fabric shop that had fabric I can use for it. You do get a lot done and I always enjoy checking your blog often!

Haha, it really is about the camera angles I think.
I am 5’4″ (and shrinking!) so close to your height and I do make things that don’t work because I look a bit stumpy. The Hvar jacket will look really good on you as I’ve seen it on all heights and it’s a lovely pattern.
Heavens, at 5’4″, to me, you are a tall person LOL! Hvar is traced and as soon as the Lago? tank is cut out and sewn, I will get started on it. With temps soaring here, it will be a while before I need it though!
I have a trans-seasonal Hvar and it’s fabulous. I am chuffed you think I’m tall – I think height is a state of mind.
Thanks for playing along, Sue! I have met you in real life. It was a lovely visit! You have a GIANT personality so I think GIRL is the perfect acronym. I too have knitted and crocheted so many extra stitches into my projects. Unfortunately, I have done this so many times that I have given up on both! He, he! You would be considered MIRL only if the acronym would rather mean Medium in Real Life. At 5’5 or so, we are both average I think. How tall is this beautiful Megan by the way? Hope you win the award, my dear. Gooood luck!
I think you’re taller than me as I’m 164cm or 5’4″. Megan must be around 5’10” I would think, I’ve never asked her.
Well Sue, I met you in person before I read your blog and in my mind you have always been a tall (read “woman of stature” person). I have NEVER thought of you as a MIRL. Maybe people who read your blog exaggerate your height in much the same way that movies made an Ama zon of Raquel Welch ??? (who is about 5′ 1″, btw). Congratulations on your nomination for this blog. I concur with all the reasons for which you were nominated and confess to squirreling away your tutorial posts for future use. I have just printed off your tutorial on the lined pencil skirt with vent 🙂 🙂 🙂 Cheers!

Archie counted them once and got to 18, and that’s without the hidden ones! In my defence, most of them are vintage and were given to me by my mother.
I’m another fortunate nominated by Linda,but am yet to do my post. I enjoyed your answers, and am relieved to see that my sewing machine collection can be described as modest now 😉.
