I haven’t had a lot of time for sewing lately as we’ve had lots going on. However, I have managed some simple makes between other tasks and here they are.
I made yet another Grainline Scout Tee from some mustard and white spotted cotton that I have just become sick of seeing in the stash. I think it must have been from the 1980s when mustard was trendy, and, as it’s not really my colour, I did nothing with it.
I had the smallest amount of material, so considered making the Megan Nielsen Eucalypt Tank, but wanted more coverage at the shoulders, so the Scout tee was the obvious choice. However, I wanted to change the Scout up a bit, so took the bottom of the Eucalypt tank pattern and added it to the Scout – I am totally won over!
The hemline now has a lovely shape, with the back dipping down quite low, making it fabulous to wear with trousers. However, I must have messed up the tracing because my front and backs were slightly different lengths. Rather than reshaping the back to meet the front, I put in side splits and left it at that.
The skirt is the Lotta Jansdotter Tedra skirt from her book “Everyday Style”, which is available everywhere it seems.
The skirt is cut on the bias and is rather nice, with large patch pockets. I used a fairly heavy cotton/spandex woven fabric, which is probably a bit stiff for a bias cut skirt, but it turned out pretty well, and fills a glaring gap in my wardrobe – I didn’t have a white skirt; how does that happen? I have now worn this skirt a lot, and here is my first photo of it, with an older Scout Tee. The hem of the skirt drove me mad with all the wrinkles. In the end I reduced the bulk by trimming it and overlocking, rather than having a double hem, and did manage to eliminate some of those wrinkles, but not all. Interestingly they only appear at the front of the skirt.
[Later update] I forgot to mention that the waist of the skirt was too big for me, so I put in a couple of darts in the back. I was going to go down a size next time, but quite like the ease round the hips, so the darts may be a regular change to this pattern.
I also made the Paprika Patterns Onyx shirt from a gorgeous floral viscose remnant, and it goes brilliantly with this skirt.
The Onyx shirt is a slightly boxy shape, with cuffed and tabbed sleeves. I used French seams throughout, including around the armholes, and made matching bias binding for the neckline.
It has a curved hem, higher at the front than the back.
So, three new things in my wardrobe, all of which have already been in regular rotation. Now to make some things for Mark!

What a great idea to use the Eucalypt hem on the Scout. It looks great. I love all these new things and they suit you very well. Your hair even seems to have turned mustard colour in sympathy (in a good way, of course!).
I thought it was a good idea too ;). Haha about the hair! I need to get it cut off and clearly it needs to be coloured!!

Sue, I think that the mustard polka dot is one of my favourites!!! It is very stylish and a lovely cut. all three shirts look fabulous but the mustard is tres chic. Gorgeous!

All three pieces look like great wardrobe staples. I have never had a white skirt, but I thibkbit might be time, especially when I look at yours! Casual but chic! And I must try the scout tee. Oh, I wish it was summer here!
If it makes you feel better, it currently feels like winter here – I am in a jumper! I think a white skirt is pretty essential in the summer and can’t believe I didn’t have one.

The summer left us – we had our second coldest February day on record and now we have had massive rainfalls. I’m sure summer will come back eventually.
I am happy our brief snowfall (1 or 2 weeks) has left us and we are back into our rainy season. I am VERY happy it’s raining! hahaha
