Named Talvikki

When Named Clothing released their newest collection “Evolution Theory” I knew I had to have the Talvikki Sweater. It is everything I’ve been looking for: casual, yet reasonably elegant.

My second version is from this lovely cotton knit from Textile Traders that I’ve been hoarding, but thought I’d make a trial version using a Potter’s remnant. Thank goodness, because in my haste and excitement I managed to trace two fronts and no back, and had no idea until I began to wonder why my back wasn’t longer than the front as per the photograph.

I decided to forge ahead and see what difference it would make, and amazingly, it is still wearable! It’s not nearly as nice, of course; the neckline doesn’t stand out as much, and the front and back are the same length, but the darts don’t look too bad.

I didn’t have enough fabric, so had to put cuffs on the sleeves, but I have worn this several times since I made it as it is warm and very comfortable.

I did interface the bottom hems on the white one as I felt that they might stretch out.   I really like the neckline, although I did think it might be a bit small to get on and off my head easily, so I didn’t interface it, so it had a bit of stretch. Luckily the fabric is stiff enough to stand up on its own, and happily my pin head has no problems getting through it.

You can see how much better the darts sit on the back when they are in the correct place.

I shall make another one of these, but I’m going to lengthen both the front and the back a bit. Maybe.

The pattern itself was really easy to make, although I had to lop about 3cms off the length of the sleeves, and they are still quite long. I would really like one of these in some boiled wool – pity I don’t have any in my stash!
