I was in a shop (Heaven Wrapped, Claremont) the other day and I saw a wrap which quite took my fancy and immediately decided that I wanted to replicate it. It was knitted with two contrasting strands of wool, folded over and sewn. Here is my “interpretation” which is now completely different!
I found lots of odd bits of black wool and a couple of balls of this lovely caramel wool in my stash, and set about knitting. This is basically a long rectangle of knit 1, purl 1 rib.
When I figured I had done enough I cast off – how easy is that?? I then joined one of the short ends to the end of the long end (clear enough?!). and got a basic shawl shape with ribs going in different directions. However, mine was too wide at the neck, so I simply did a bit of extra sewing and it created this rather lovely shape, with a diagonal line, followed by a straight-ish line. The neck was now the correct size and I liked the effect.
The beauty of this wrap is that it can be worn in a few different ways. In the first photo I have the long piece at the side and my extra sewing creates a natural shoulder line. In the photo above I have the longer piece at the side back and it’s short at the front.

I’ve played around with lots of ways to wear this, and would like to report that it’s easy to make and wear ,and is perfect for days when you don’t know whether you are going to be hot or cold. I’ve dug out a couple of large buttons to sew on the extra bit of seaming I did, so the next time you see it, it may look a little different.
This is going to be part of my Sew a Seasonal Wardrobe in spite of the fact that the only piece of sewing is a seam! It’s also my Day 2 outfit for Me-Made-May. I am also sporting undies, socks, trousers and the ruched top all made by me – a total me-made outfit as per my pledge. Ankle boots are Paul Green.

Such a simple idea shouldn’t be capable of looking that good – but it does! I will root through my yarn stash for possible contenders for one of those.

I intend to! The so called British Summertime is sorely lacking in anything approaching warmth – we even had snow last week! – so this would be well used. What size were the needles you used?
I used 10mm and what I estimate to be a 10ply and an 8ply wool. However, you could do whatever you want – that’s the beauty of this sort of design.

Great looking wrap and it solves the problem of shawls/wraps slipping off the shoulders, which is always my problem.
My problem too! I actually really dislike shawls for that reason.
