One of the problems with travelling from a warm climate to a cold climate is what to wear in that transition between countries. I chose to make some trousers from my knit trouser block which I used to make my One Year One Outfit trousers.
I teamed the trousers with a funnel necked top made from a beautiful fine wool from Knitwit. The top is self-drafted and is the same as my Lottie dress only more fitted and shorter.
As a travelling outfit this worked really well. The trousers are actually fleecy on the inside but look woven on the outside. A perfect combination as they look a bit less casual than track suit pants, but that’s really what they are!
We travelled very late at night – we never seem to go anywhere at a civilised hour and here I am at the airport considering a quick glass of bubbly.
The trouser fabric was actually left over from another make, so I was pleased to have it gone from my stash, although I still have a small amount remaining.
This outfit has been perfect for our first stop which is New York. The red top washes like a dream and dries overnight, and it is a great layering piece.
Here we are overlooking the skating rink in Central Park. It is 6.15 am and the park is full of joggers, dogs, and a few skaters having lessons.
This is quite a famous avenue of trees in Central Park, and I did want to see it after a snow, I think it would be magical. Having said that, the weather is really mild, so we are very lucky.
I am wearing my reversible Lotus blossom hat which I shrank in the washing machine so it now fits me perfectly. I am also wearing a neck warmer/cowl/snood which is Burberry “inspired” and is a free pattern on Ravelry. I made this cowl a few years ago now, and have also made it for a couple of my friends. I am actually considering making a black one for Mark because it is so warm. 
Top and trousers are self-drafted in my pattern making class, hat is from Cat Bordhi’s book “A treasury of magical knitting”. Unseen are my red and black leopard skin undies and hand knitted socks.
What a perfect travelling outfit! Hope you get some snow during your stay in NYC, but just as a decoration. 😉 Did you try ice-skating?
I haven’t tried the ice skating, Hélène! I’m not sure that it’s cold enough for snow, but we’ll get some somewhere on our journey, I’m sure!

Hi sue, Glad to see you’re traveling in style & with comfort! (First or business ?) Do your knitted socks take a while to dry & what travel washing detergent do you take? Do you fold or roll? Hi Robin, the bathroom is so warm that the socks and everything else dries overnight. I use space bags and my luggage coming over was 18kgs. Going home might be a bit more… 🙂

Great travelling wardrobe. Will you be having a winter Xmas? I would love to spend Xmas in the northern hemisphere but my husband doesn’t like the cold weather.
