High necked dress toile

This is the toile for the high necked dress pattern I developed in my pattern making class at Workspace-FADS and from which I made my Lottie dress.

It was lying about with all the hems unfinished, so I spent 20 minutes or so finishing it off and I was able to wear it for a dinner with the family on a rather cool evening.

It is made from some gorgeous fabric that I bought from Knitwit. I had too much for a top, so knew it had to be a dress, but I couldn’t decide what sort of dress;  this pattern turned out to be perfect. DSC06054

I really like this pattern and have made one more dress from it – to be revealed when I am in colder climes. It has a bit of a 1960s feel, sort of a tent/swing dress, without being too full. The split top raglan sleeves form a dart at the shoulder, which is what gives it the nice shoulder shaping. The raglan sleeves are also really comfortable.

This dress will be perfect for autumn, but in the meantime I shall be wearing it whenever we have a cool evening.

  1. Lovely simple dress to showcase the fabric. Really like the raglan sleeve. (I made a top out of a teal version of the fabric, so soft and comfortable vet special at the same time)

  2. I love this dress for winter! It really suits you, and could be very useful here. I’ve just bought Burda 6990 which has a similar neckline, and I’m wondering if I could cheat and make this into a dress. Although we don’t have many good knits in the UK, certainly not warm ones!

    1. I just checked out the pattern and I think it would work. I have made another of these dresses from a Missoni wool fabric – can you find something like this in the UK?
