Silk Gabriola

I hadn’t really planned on making another long Gabriola skirt this quickly, but then I found some amazing silk and knew what it wanted to be!

The skirt swishes most appealingly – because of the construction and because of the fabric. It felt perfect for the autumn weather we have been experiencing, due to the body in the silk.

I had never intended to wear it with the Scout blouse made from fabric left over from the skirt, but it just somehow seemed right on the day. However, in spite of my best efforts, I could not find a belt that worked. In the end I went without.

I have actually made lots of things to go with this skirt, the pink scout, the acid yellow linen scout and the orange long sleeved tee, but I am surprised to find that this is my favourite combination.

Look at the twirl – and I wasn’t even trying.

I had planned to put a curved waistband on this one, but I ran out of fabric, thanks to the blouse, and only just remembered the waistband in the nick of time. Next time I will definitely curve it. I wouldn’t make any other changes. I still don’t think I’ve got the grading right. This time I went from a 6 waist to a 0 hips and I think the sizing is right, I just don’t feel as though I quite managed the transition.

Details: Fabric is a printed silk from Potter’s Textiles, the top is a Scout tee with a long sleeved variation, and the skirt is the Sewaholic Gabriola Skirt. Ankle boots are PK.
