I am having a bit of a run of shirts at the moment. I’ve made the Archer, but, because I have a lot of knit fabric in my stash, I wanted to make a knit shirt. Cue Knitwit 3600 from 1976.

I couldn’t find this pattern anywhere on the web, but it is a very simple shirt (only 5 pattern pieces) and best of all, it takes 3 hours to make from start to finish (and 2 hours hunting for buttons in stash, but that’s another story!)

This version is made from a really fine cotton t-shirting material that I’ve had in my stash for so long I can’t remember where it came from. It is impossible to unpick (ask me how I know) and so I had to be a bit careful in the making.

Note the big ’70s collar. As soon as it was on I knew I wouldn’t like it and I knew that I couldn’t unpick it, so I have decided to cut it down and bind the raw edges with some leftover fabric from my liquorice allsorts top. For once I thought ahead and put a bit of the binding between the sleeves and cuffs to tie it all in together, but I am feeling a bit high school blazer with the way it is.

The back is simple, and I like the extra length, particularly in form fitting trousers.

This has to be one of the most comfortable shirts I own and I’m sure that once I have sorted out the collar, I will wear it all over the place.

I am going to pretend that this is a close up of the shirt, but it’s really to introduce Tom and Bridgette’s new puppy, Heidi. She is 8 weeks old and is a long haired German Shepherd. They only got her yesterday and we’ve already wangled puppy sitting duties. Totally besotted here…Please note the size of the paws though. Just also noting that Tom and Bridgette have cream carpet throughout their house. I predict bulk vacuuming and carpet cleaning!
