Floral linen

As summer nears I want to make lots of shift dresses I can throw on when things get really hot. This dress was a relatively early contender in the “hot weather” dress stakes

I bought the fabric on a quick visit to Potter’s a few weeks ago with my friend S where I bought only a few remnants, this shirt fabric for Mark being one of them.

However this lovely floral linen remnant caught my eye and I knew it would be perfect for dress F from The Stylish Dress Book. I had originally been inspired by Make_Something‘s sleeveless version of this dress in a faintly reminiscent fabric (I am highly suggestible) and although the remnant was pretty small I figured I would have enough.

Then I saw the one that Handmadebycarolyn made and decided that the sleeves were too gorgeous to leave out. I then had my usual problem of fitting them on the fabric. I managed it, but it meant that the flowers weren’t quite as well placed. Oh well…

I did manage to get the flowers almost in the middle of my back:

and of course pockets, and a smug look, are always a bonus addition to any outfit!

I have made this dress twice now. This was the first version, but I made it again in another remnant from Potter’s and it turned out to be quite different in fit – I think because I went across the grain and I may not have added as much seam allowance as I felt that this one was a bit baggy  loose.

The details:

Dress F from The Stylish Dress Book by Yoshiko Tsukiori

Floral linen fabric from Potter’s

Shoes are Guglielmo Rotta from Soletta shoes

Necklace is handmade wrapped wire bought at Heaven Sent in Claremont

My last blog was about seeing clothing similar to mine in my local shopping centre. I have noticed so many clothes with the neckline from Dress F – from tops to silk dresses. I am considering making a more fitted version of this dress out of silk.

  1. Wow! I really love it in a floral! what gorgeous fabric! I’m glad you got the sleeves out, they really look good, and will keep the sun off too. And thank you so much for mentioning me 🙂
btw I meant to mention before (but forgot) that we went to the last Wildcats game and I noticed the umpires were wearing plain grey Tshirts, not black and white stripes! just thought you might like to know 🙂
