Vintage McCalls take 2

Today was another perfect spring day so I had the opportunity to wear another new dress. This one is another version of the vintage McCalls 4289 dress made in pink earlier this season.

This time I made it with a patterned knit that is gorgeously drapey and extremely comfortable to wear and extracted from my stash.

You will note that the fabric has an obvious diagonal print – this made it unsuitable for … well, everything! I looked at every pattern I own and in the end decided to use it for this and hope for the best. I did think I might get a chevron pattern at the centre seams, but the print is too random.

I think I got away with it though!

This time I made the short sleeves which are lovely – very weird pattern piece though. They are basically a couple of semi-circles with a straight piece under the arm. I – luckily as it happens – didn’t have enough fabric for the sash, so took myself off to Spotlight looking for stretchy chiffon. Found this fabric, which isn’t stretchy, but it works. I think that a sash out of the same fabric as the dress would have been far too busy.

I tied the sash at the back, but in the picture above I look like it is coming undone. My only excuse is that I have been at work all day and am probably a tad untidy by the end of a day of endless meetings.

The details:

Pattern is McCalls 4289 bought by my sister from an op shop

Shoes (among my favourites) are XSA from Dimatina in Subiaco

Fabric is a remnant from Knitwit

Bracelet – hard to see – handmade by yours truly and matches the dress perfectly.

Not sure when I will be able to showcase any more new clothes, the weather is turning to custard again (not literally, hehe!). Had I known that winter would stretch on so long, I might have made a couple more winter outfits.

  1. For someone with a sore finger you have certainly done well while I have been away. Love the dresses and top but have to say I prefer you in a slightly fitted dress rather than loose all over. Love your male model and his shirts are superb. The ducks are adorable, wonder what they were shopping for? LTx
